Keeper Like You
Native Volume I Page 17

Changed up the coloring style again based on a few helpful tutorials I found. Spent the weekend painting myself some textures and of course brought this page down to the wire again, though thankfully coloring did take less time than usual.

PAGE 17 (4 Panels)

Panel 1. Maisy, a round pleasant woman with her work shirt rolled up to her elbows, is fussing over the hearth in the room that Talis enters. She is stirring something in a pot. The various materials she is using to make lantern patch glue are spread out on a butcher-block table in the center of the room. Lockers (Supposedly for a full crew of keepers) line one wall. Atop them more supplies are stacked. A net holds more supplies over a window seat. A bench and rack for removing shoes and jackets has also been taken over by piles of things. One item (jacket/sweater) hangs on the rack.
MAISY: There you are, Talis! How did it go?
TALIS: After patching F I found more tears in G and H. Those are fixed now, too, but I'll need that glue to do any more, I'm just about out.
MAISY: You fixed four tears up there today? Sakes, girl, you are amazing.

Panel 2. Talis is dubious of the compliment.
TALIS: It's just canvas, Maisy.
MAISY: What it is downright tough work, but you go up there and make it look easy.

Panel 3. Maisy shakes a glue-gooped spoon at Talis. Talis gives her a wry smile and grabs a piece of spikey fruit from a bowl on the table.
MAISY: I've never hired a keeper like you. Hope I never have to hire another.

Panel 4. Talis has collected some coils of rope and thrown them over her shoulder. Maisy is moving the glue pot to the table and shakes it in the air triumphantly.
TALIS: I can't take all the credit. You make some seriously strong coffee.
MAISY: Ah yes, the coffee. Well my secret is not rinsing the glue from the kettle!
